The port of Pozzuoli has an ancient history . Active already at the time of the Greeks , in Roman times it reached its heyday becoming the center of commercial traffic in the western Mediterranean . From spices, to wheat, to slaves, a huge quantity of goods passed through Puteoli (as the city was called in ancient times).

The archaeological traces of the glorious past are manifold and contribute significantly to the tourist appeal of the locality. As for the port, however, nothing remains of the ancient splendor.

Not only the pace of history, but also thebradyseism - a volcanic phenomenon with which Pozzuoli has always lived - have radically changed the physiognomy of the port area. Suffice it to consider, for example, that the sea once reached where the Cumana station is currently located.

Today the port of Pozzuoli has a prevalent commercial and tourist connection with the islands of Ischia and ProcidaThere is also an area intended for boating and another, instead, for fishing boats.
